Any "thing" in reality is always in relationship to the entire Universe, both in space and in time.

Imagine you are looking at a cardboard tetrahedron that divides the Universe into two parts: the smaller part inside the tetrahedron and the huge part outside the tetrahedron. You need the relationship of "smaller than huge" to define the inside of the cardboard as the tetrahedron.
